New truck..need brake controller advice

got an 08 sierra last month for my new daily/tow vehicle. It came wired up with a 7pin but im still going to need to install a brake controller and dont really have a clue what i should be looking for in a unit. so im looking for some suggestions as to what controller would be a good choice to go with. i was also wondering if i need a specific controller for a specific style of trailer brakes. any info you can throw my way as to the different types of braking systems and controllers would be appreciated. ive never had to tow anything of decent size with previous trucks so its all new to me.
figured id throw up some pictures too

nice truck.

i went to my local place where i bought my trailer for mine. i went with the middle of the road priced controller. think it was around $100-120. mine is a draw-tite activator 2 & have never had a problem. as far as i know, brake controllers all do the same thing.

Re: New truck..need brake controller advice

Mainly they all do the same thing. But some of them are made for just single axle trailers which wouldnt be too good. And some of them are made for 3 or 4 axle. But just go anyplace, napa sells them, usually truck stops have them. Just read the package and see what it says. You can find em all over online as well. Other then that its just a plug n play with those trucks. They should have given you a wire harness when you bought it that plugs in down under the dash by yur left foot. Then a couple quick connects and hook it to the brake controller and yur good to stop.

Re: New truck..need brake controller advice

ther is def a quick wire setup that wires the brake control right to your factory fuse panel, i just picked up a reese brake controller 90 bones marked down fron 119, runs 2,3 axels, and 2,4,6, brakes it can mount on any angle even upside down, and also has emergency brake override, i can thumb the trailer brakes from the controller. def was a good investment, i cant knock any other ones i just am tellin you that the one i picked up seems to do the job for me, oh ps the trailer is 2 axle 20 foot dovetail full deck all steel and i tow it with a 3500 2008 chevy express van so trailer brakes were a must.

On the new body style GM's they don't give you a harness. The harness is already connected under the dash left of the steering column, it's taped fast to another harness and has a sticker telling you what wires are what.
