Weird idle from 2005 Duramax

Yesterday at work I drove 05 GMC 2500 dmax lly. When I parked it at idle, the rpms rose to 1,000. It sound like turbo was spooling up for boost weird. Why is that?

might have had a high idle kit on it. or it could have just been the vanes in the turbo moving. did you see the rpm's go up?

I saw the rpm's go up while i had the truck in park. The rpm's were under 1,000 but as soon as I started to get out, the rpm's started to rise. My foot was not on the gas pedal when it was in park. When I got out it sound similar to a jet engine turbine while ideling. Weird :wtf: I still want one lol

im not an expert on diesel trucks but mine does it sometimes when i stop at a red light.. my only guess is that there is still air being blown in from the turbo and the little bit extra air makes it rev up ??? :wtf: who knows.. as long as it doesnt stay up i wont worry about it

We have 5 duramax's at work and they all get that spooled up, high idle sound when its cold out. even if the truck has been sitting at idle for a while they will cycle in and out of it. easiest way to tell if this is the culprit is next time it does it, touch the brake and the idle should drop down as soon as you place your foot on it.

i've heard of the variable vaine turbos on the ford 6.0 having issues, hanging up causing high boost at low rpm or hanging open and not spooling, even had to replaced one at work, but so far no issues w/ the duramax.
