I looked into it, called the Maryland MVA, talked to a few people and decided I didnt want to do it. It is legal in Maine to register your trailer up there but have it in MD, but it is not legal in MD to do it. Ya, you will probably never get caught, but I didnt want to chance it so i just registered mine in MD. Wasnt worth the chance. And sending that info to some random place in maine didnt sit with me well. Plenty of people do it though.

Re: Plates for Trailers
these cost are for a 10,000lb trailer registration
MD
2 years = $180ish i think
Maine
5 years = $90
Maine is hella cheap! Also, if it is a used trailer you need to get it inspected in MD. Maine does not require any form of inspection.

Re: Plates for Trailers
So is Maine the cheapest place to register a trailer? I think this is the reason why many ocean yachts are registered in Delaware because of the cheap registration. The cost is a lot but it's not enough of a difference to risk getting in trouble with the law. Do you have to pay based on weight or trailers or wheels or does it depend on the state? I was looking at the trailers over at Trailers Plus and was wondering how much plates would cost.
