External HD Help

560gb is getting full on the pc.

I'm looking for around 1tb external drive to mainly save pics and vids on.

Any recommendations? I want something that's gonna last and not crash on me.

Re: External HD Help

I use the Western Digital My Book Essential 1TB. The only thing it lacks is firewire and the only thing that I personally do not like is the backup software is a little invasive at first. I forget how but I turned it off. Its fast, quiet and relatively cheap for its transfer rate. I got mine when Circuit City was shutting down and paid like $65 for it. Best Buy has it for $80 right now and $120 for the 2TB. It's pretty sturdy to even though it doesn't feel like it. The hard plastic case kept everything safe when I knocked it off my desk (3 times so far). I personally would stay clear of the smaller form factor ones that use the laptop hard drives. I just don't trust them. Hope that helps.

Re: External HD Help

I have 3 Western Digital 320Gb setup in raid 0 and never even had a hiccup. My secondary raid has two 80GB and they are going on 6 years now without a problem. Definitely worth looking into the external drives from them.

Re: External HD Help

Well they didn't have the 1tb My Book Essential left @ BestBuy since they're on sale.

I picked up the 3TB WD 3TB

Not sure to keep it or order a 1tb online and return this one.

Re: External HD Help

LOTS of bad reviews on this drive.

I think I'll try my luck w/ the 1tb and hope it doesn't die on me.
